Chiropractic Care for Auto Injuries and Whiplash
Car crashes result in injuries that can be life-changing. While some go the route of medication, others prefer to turn to an alternative: chiropractic care. These services can provide beneficial treatment for a variety of auto injuries, including whiplash.
Types of Chiropractic Care for Auto Injuries
Auto accidents can result in back pain, neck pain and even whiplash. The intent is to decrease any inflammation to reduce the pain. The major methods for achieving this are:
- Spinal manipulations: Helps realign the spinal cord putting the body back into alignment and, therefore, decreasing the pain while helping speed the healing of the body
- Manual manipulation of the affected components: Helps reduce swelling
- Muscle stimulations
- Trigger Point Therapy
- Soft tissue therapy
Not all chiropractors use the above methods. Some may restrict their approach to spinal manipulation; others may branch out further and employ alternative but compatible approaches such as acupuncture.
A Holistic Approach
No matter what type of auto injury you have, including whiplash, a chiropractor does not ignore either the medical treatment and/or advice you already have received. Nor does s/he treat you for your injuries without performing a thorough examination. This includes your medical history. You will also undergo tests.
Furthermore, as one segment of a holistic approach to the treatment of auto injuries, the chiropractor will recommend more than just chiropractic services. In the case of whiplash, something as simple as an ice-pack may be recommended; in other instances, s/h may suggest changes in diet and exercise. These are intended to help your body and you reduce pain and heal.
